Authorities ID Man Found Dead In Pond In San Diego's East County

"For now, the case is still suspicious in nature but no indication of foul play as of yet," sheriff's Lt. Chris Steffen​ told Patch.

LAKESIDE, CA — Authorities have identified a man found dead last week in a pond in eastern San Diego County.

A welfare check on a body was requested shortly before 3:30 a.m. Aug. 1 in the area of Moreno Drive and Willow Road in Lakeside, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The department's Search and Rescue Dive Team found and recovered a body from the lake.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as 50-year-old Thomas Moreno, the sheriff's department announced Monday.

The sheriff's Homicide Unit is still investigating the death, sheriff's Lt. Chris Steffen said.

"For now, the case is still suspicious in nature but no indication of foul play as of yet," Steffen told Patch. "We should know more once the cause and manner of death have been established by the Medical Examiner's office."
