Brush Fire On Barona Indian Reservation Closes Wildcat Canyon Road

Breaking: The McKenna Fire was contained at five acres but crews will remain onsite, according to Cal Fire San Diego.

LAKESIDE, CA -- Cal Fire San Diego crews have contained a five-acre vegetation fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon on the Barona Indian Reservation -- near Barona Creek Golf Club in the Lakeside area -- but firefighters will remain on scene for several hours.

The so-called "McKenna Fire" was reported sometime around 3 p.m. near the 14000 block of Wildcat Canyon Road and resulted in the closure of southbound Wildcat Canyon Road at San Vicente Road, according to officials.

Ground and airborne personnel worked to extinguish the brush fire.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damaged structures.

Just before 3:30 p.m., the San Diego County Sheriff's Department reported that the fire was contained but traffic in the area was still being affected.

Firefighters were expected to remain on scene until approximately 7 p.m., according to Cal Fire San Diego.

At 4 p.m., the agency said a single lane of Wildcat Canyon Road was open to traffic at the site of the fire --between mile marker 8.5 and 9.
