Brush Fire Sparks Alongside I-8 In El Cajon
Crews have halted the spread of a roughly 10-acre hillside brushfire near the Granite Hills neighborhood.

EL CAJON, CA – Crews have halted the spread of a roughly 10-acre hillside brushfire near the Granite Hills neighborhood Friday, fire officials said.
According to Cal Fire, the fire ignited about 4 p.m. alongside eastbound Interstate 8, near Greenfield Drive, in El Cajon.
Ground crews and personnel aboard air tankers and water-dropping helicopters battled the flames, which spread amid warm, breezy conditions toward a Walmart Supercenter on Camino Canada for a time, said Cal Fire Capt. Issac Sanchez. By 5:30 p.m., officials reported the blaze had burned 10 acres and was 10 percent contained.

Traffic on I-8 was heavily congested for miles in the area as crews worked to subdue the flames, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
