SANTEE, CA — The city extended a curfew order effective immediately Wednesday for portions of Santee.
The curfew impacts the area west of Magnolia Avenue, including all of Magnolia Avenue, to the westerly boundary of Santee. The order is in effect from 7:45 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.
"The order was issued in response to events transpiring at this time," the city said in a news release that was issued shortly before 8 p.m.

The curfew was imposed after a group of protestors started marching in the street down Mission Gorge Road. Protestors were holding signs and shouting George Floyd's name as well as "Black Lives Matter," and "no justice, no peace," among other chants.
"For the past three evenings, large gatherings have occurred in the city of Santee, which have created threats to public safety and property and are in violation of current public health orders," the city said in a statement. "The extension of the curfew will continue to help in keeping the community of Santee safe while protecting our residents and local businesses."

The city asked residents and visitors in the area to stay home unless they need to travel to work, seek medical care or experience an emergency situation.
Curfews are also in effect Wednesday night in the cities of El Cajon and La Mesa. Santee had imposed a curfew Sunday through Tuesday nights as protests against police brutality continued across San Diego County.
