Daily Dose: County Economy Slowly Growing

Recently released economic progress report for the county shows good signs, but no quick recovery- all the more reason to check out tonight's Summer Concert.

• Data released on Wednesday shows seven straight months of slight growth in the San Diego County economy. The University of San Diego Burnham-Moores Center for Real Estate's Index of Leading Economic Indicators for San Diego County released the May figures which rose because of a decrease in local unemployment insurance claims, a sharp increase in help wanted advertising and an increase in local stock prices and local building permits.

"The outlook continues to be positive for the local economy, and growth is expected at least through the end of 2011,'' USD business professor Alan Gin said.

He added that the increase in home was lower than in the previous four months of the year. Also, much of the growth in local stock prices in May was given back in the last couple of weeks. The outlook is for continued slow growth, he said.
