Driver Killed After Truck Flips In East County

The man apparently lost control of the truck and overturned off the south edge of the roadway.

BOULEVARD, CA -- A man was killed after the pickup he was driving veered off an embankment along Interstate 8 in rural East County, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday. At about 7 p.m. Friday, a 67-year-old man was behind the wheel of a 1996 Dodge Ram 2500, pulling a three-axle flatbed trailer loaded with concrete blocks on eastbound I-8 west of Ribbonwood Road, near Boulevard, CHP Officer Travis Garrow said.

The man apparently lost control of the truck and overturned off the south edge of the roadway, Garrow said.

The driver -- who was wearing a seatbelt -- died at the scene.
