El Cajon Woman ID'd as Victim in Fatal Rollover Crash

San Diego, CA — A woman killed Sunday when the SUV she was riding in rolled off of Interstate 15 onto Murphy Canyon Road was identified Tuesday as an El Cajon resident.

Divinia Iruguin Cataluna, 63, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1 p.m. crash, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office reported.

Authorities say she was the passenger of an SUV that witnesses saw traveling on southbound I-15 near Aero Drive when it veered off the freeway, rolled down the west embankment and came to rest upright in the 3300 block of Murphy Canyon, where it caught fire.

Cataluna was ejected from the vehicle. Despite resuscitation efforts of emergency personnel, she succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries.

The male driver of the vehicle was trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was taken by paramedics to Sharp Memorial Hospital, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Spokesman Lee Swanson.

The wreck caused a closure of Murphy Canyon, along the freeway frontage between Aero Drive and Stonecrest Boulevard, according to San Diego Police.
