Fire Engulfs Trailers At El Cajon Mobile Home Park

EL CAJON, CA – Flames engulfed two trailers at an El Cajon mobile home park Friday, displacing five residents and causing an estimated $35,000 worth of damage.

The blaze in the 200 block of El Cajon Boulevard erupted for unknown reasons about 3:45 p.m., according to Heartland Fire & Rescue. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to extinguish the flames, said Sonny Saghera, Heartland Fire & Rescue's public information officer.

A police officer suffered a minor hand cut when he broke out a window to determine if anyone was inside one of the burning structures, Saghera said. Paramedics treated him at the scene.

The American Red Cross was called in to help the residents of the mobile homes -- four adults and a child -- arrange for interim housing, Saghera said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation in the late afternoon.
