Fire Sparks At Recycling Facility In East County
The fire erupted in a car crusher at the metal recycling yard, according to San Miguel Fire & Rescue.

EL CAJON, CA – Firefighters battled a fire at a metal recycling facility Wednesday afternoon in El Cajon.
The blaze broke out shortly after 1:30 p.m. at All Ways Recycling at 1425 N. Magnolia Ave., sending a column of thick black smoke over eastern San Diego County. The fire erupted in a car crusher at the metal recycling yard, according to San Miguel Fire & Rescue.
Police shut down Magnolia Avenue, which fronts the business, between Cypress Lane and Greenfield Avenue as a safety precaution. County hazardous-materials personnel were called in to deal with possibly toxic runoff, SMFR Deputy Chief James Marugg said.

Firefighters had the flames extinguished by 3:20 p.m., Marugg said. The county crew determined that the blaze resulted in no environmental hazards, he said.
The street closure was expected to remain in effect into the late afternoon.
