Groundbreaking Held for Deputy Ken Collier Neighborhood Park in Santee
The deputy was killed in the line of duty in February 2010 while trying to stop a drunk driver going the wrong way on Highway 52 in Santee.

Santee, CA — Construction is set to begin on a park in Santee that will honor the memory of a San Diego County sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty.
Family members of the fallen deputy were joined by Sheriff Bill Gore and Santee city leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony Friday morning to kick off construction of Deputy Ken Collier Neighborhood Park.
Deputy Collier was killed in a crash on Feb. 28, 2010 while trying to stop a drunk driver going the wrong way on Highway 52 in Santee.

The park, located east of Fanita Drive and north of Prospect Avenue, will include a playground structure, benches, a picnic shelter, an interactive bikeway for children, a half-court basketball court and outdoor fitness equipment.

The city of Santee says the project's budget including design and engineering is $1.2 million, with state and local grants being used to help offset the cost.
