K-9s Sniff Out Cocaine and Meth at Border Checkpoint
With help from K-9s, Border Patrol agents seized illegal drugs valued at more than $650,000.
PINE VALLEY, CA - U.S. Border Patrol agents seized illegal drugs valued at more than $650,000 from two vehicles at the Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley.
Both drug busts occurred on Sunday Oct. 16, agents announced this week.
On Sunday morning, a Nissan Versa was referred to a secondary check-point, where agents searched the car and discovered 15 bundles of cocaine located inside the vehicleβs rear-quarter panel.

The cocaine had a total weight of 38.03 pounds and an estimated street value of $456,360.
Later Sunday, a Nissan Altima was stopped and agents discovered 40 tape-wrapped bundles of crystal methamphetamine stashed inside the rear door panels.

The methamphetamine bundles weighed 49.38 pounds and have an estimated street value of $197,520.
David BeMiller, Patrol Agent in Charge of the Campo Border Patrol Station, praised his K-9's in the drug seizures saying, βbecause of their superior detection capabilities, Border Patrol K-9s serve as tremendous assets to prevent dangerous narcotics from reaching our communities.β
Four suspects from the two incidents were arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the drugs.
