Man Accused of Taking Cellphone Video of 10-Year-Old Girl in Restroom of East County Walmart

BREAKING: The alleged perpetrator is a registered sex offender, and more potential victims are sought, according to sheriff's officials.

El CAJON, CA β€” Authorities said Tuesday they are looking for more possible victims of a 21-year-old registered sex offender who was arrested Monday on suspicion of taking cellphone video of a young girl in the restroom of an East County Walmart store.

San Diego County sheriff's Lt. Dan Brislin said Robert Becker was taken into custody at his home in the 4000 block of Alpine Boulevard in Alpine in connection with the Aug. 17 incident at the Walmart store located at 13487 Camino Canada in unincorporated El Cajon.

"A 10-year-old girl told deputies a man followed her inside the women's restroom," Brislin said. "She says the man got into a stall next to her and used a cellphone camera to record her while making lewd comments."

The suspect left Walmart before deputies from the Lakeside Sheriff's Substation arrived, according to Brislin, but they identified Becker as the alleged perpetrator by reviewing store surveillance video.

Becker is facing charges of alleged attempted lewd and lascivious acts on a minor, annoying or molesting a child with a prior conviction and disorderly lewd conduct, Brislin said, noting that more charges may be pending.

Becker was being held at San Diego Central Jail as of Tuesday and is not eligible for release, jail records show. He is tentatively scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"The investigation is ongoing and Becker is suspected of committing similar crimes in the East County and potential victims are being urged to come forward," Brislin said.
