Man Arrested In Fatal East County Shooting

LAKESIDE, CA — A man suspected of fatally shooting another man this week in San Diego's East County was behind bars Thursday, authorities said.

Anthony Jose Gonzales, 26, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of shooting and killing 26-year-old Michael Anthony Johnson, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies responded to a report of gunshots at about 3:10 a.m. Tuesday in the 9700 block of Cactus Street in Lakeside. Deputies found Johnson lying in the street and suffering from a gunshot wound, sheriff's Lt. Joseph Jarjura said. He died at the scene.

Sheriff's officials did not disclose what led detectives to identify Gonzales as the suspect. Gonzales was arrested and booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of murder.
