Missing Bull Statue Found in Lakeside [UPDATED]

The steer was spotted atop El Capitan High School early Friday.

LAKESIDE, CA: An iconic statue of a bull that went missing from an East County restaurant has been located in an unexpected place, a San Diego news station reported.

The steer was spotted early Friday atop El Capitan High School, according to San Diego's Fox5.

The bull went missing in late April, the news station reported.

Community members are speculating that its disappearance and reappearance may be prank-related, being that Vaqueros β€” Spanish for cowboys β€” are the mascot of El Capitan High.

Reached Friday, Grossmont Union High School District Spokeswoman Catherine Martin said the statue has since been returned to its rightful owner and that she had no further details to give.

Lakeside sheriff's Sgt. Cliff Rinder said a deputy took a report April 23 about the theft of the bull from the owner of Pinnacle Peak Steakhouse in Lakeside. But by the time deputies arrived at the campus Friday, he said the steer had already been wrangled from the top of the building.

"We don't have any surveillance and we don't have any suspects," Rinder told Patch. "I'm sure there is more to the story but right now we have no investigative leads."

Patch will update this post if we learn more.
