• County Taxpayers Association endorses proposed Santee sales tax measure (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Santee voters will decide in November whether to approve a temporary one‑cent sales tax increase, raising the city's rate to 8.75% for 10 years to tackle a large backlog of infrastructure and public safety needs. The San Diego County Taxpayers Association, which opposed a similar 2024 measure, now backs this broader, council‑referred proposal but still urges stronger guarantees that new revenue will be spent as promised. 
• Brush Fire in Sorrento Valley Burns 131 Acres, Smoke Blown Across County (iheart.com) — A brush fire in Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve burned about 130 acres Sunday, sending smoke across San Diego and into East County communities including Santee. Firefighters stopped the blaze's forward progress by evening and lifted evacuation warnings, but the incident is a reminder that Santee residents can still feel serious smoke impacts from fires burning miles away.
