Pedestrian Fatally Struck By Pickup In East County
A man was fatally struck by a pickup while trying to cross an El Cajon street outside a crosswalk, police said.
EL CAJON, CA — A man was fatally struck by a pickup while trying to cross an El Cajon street outside a crosswalk, police said Thursday.
The collision was reported shortly after 3:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of North Second Street and East Madison Avenue, El Cajon police Lt. Jason Taub said.
Investigators determined the pedestrian, described only as an "elderly" man, attempted to cross the street from west to east — outside a crosswalk and between stopped vehicles — when he was struck by a Ford F-150 heading southbound in the left-hand turn lane, Taub said.

"The driver of the Ford had a green light and the pedestrian stepped in front of his moving vehicle and was struck," the lieutenant said.
Medics took the pedestrian to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
