Santee Rock Concert Flouts County Health Order

SANTEE, CA — Flouting San Diego County's ban on most public events, a Santee music school held a rock concert atop its roof Saturday, drawing several dozen people despite the risks posed by the coronavirus pandemic, NBC reported.

The event was organized by Dale Curtsinger, owner of San Diego Performance Academy on North Magnolia Avenue. He called it a "Music Matters Protest," in an effort to avoid being shut down by the county — protests, after all, are permitted under the state's latest guidelines.

"We’re outdoors, we’re safe. The band is on the roof, socially distanced," Curtsinger told NBC. "We need music now more than ever before."

Some attendees, but not all, were wearing masks as they watched the performance by a Led Zeppelin cover band, according to NBC. A sheriff's deputy stopped by the event at one point, but left without making any effort to stop the event.

Curtsinger is now planning another protest next weekend.
