Thanksgiving Weekend Traffic Fatalities Rise From Last Year

SAN DIEGO COUNTY -- Traffic accidents claimed five lives in the San Diego area over the Thanksgiving weekend, two more than during the same period last year, the California Highway Patrol said Nov. 28.

Over the same 102-hour time span beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, CHP officers arrested 57 motorists on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in San Diego County, 15 fewer than during the comparable period in 2015.

Statewide, road collisions killed 55 people over the holiday weekend --20 more than last year -- and the CHP took 902 suspected DUI drivers into custody compared with 1,028 in 2015, according to the state agency.
