USS Chosin Heading To San Diego For Overhaul
The cruiser, now in Pearl Harbor, is among several in Navy fleet due for modernization.
SAN DIEGO, CA - The cruiser USS Chosin will be transferred from Hawaii to San Diego to undergo a modernization program, the Navy announced Tuesday.
The 568-foot-long Chosin is scheduled to depart Pearl Harbor by the end of this month, according to a Navy statement.
The Navy is working to extend the working life of cruisers to 40 years. The overhaul will also upgrade shipboard combat systems to address current and future warfighting requirements.

"Thousands of men and women served aboard USS Chosin over the past 25 years that the 'War Dragon' was home-ported here at Pearl Harbor,'' said Rear Adm. John Fuller, commander of surface ships in the Mid-Pacific and Navy Region Hawaii.
"Chosin sailors and their proud ship kept sea lanes open, built strong international partnerships and stood at the ready to defend our nation,'' he said.

USS Chosin, commissioned in 1991, was named after the Chosin Reservoir, the site of a crucial Korean War battle.
