Where's That Smoke Coming From In East County?
Smoke and flames reported by drivers on Interstate 8.
ALPINE, CA -- Smoke and flames reported by drivers on Interstate 8 Monday morning turned out to be from a controlled burn in the hills near Viejas Casino, officials said. The fire was first reported by a motorist at 9:11 a.m.
The California Highway Patrol determined the flames were deliberately set by fire authorities as part of controlled burning, the agency said.
