$20K in Property Loss From Car Crash on Highway 9 Above Saratoga

Motorist crashes into tree setting grass fire Friday evening.

More than $20,000 in property loss is being reported by the Santa Clara County Fire Department following a passenger vehicle fire Friday evening on Highway 9 and Heather Heights Road in the Saratoga hills.

The passenger vehicle fire was caused by a crash reported at 6:27 p.m. Due to an undetermined reason, the motorist, driving a green Mini Cooper, crashed into a tree setting a grass fire that took firefighters nearly three hours to extinguish.

Highway 9 in both directions remained closed Friday evening until about 9 p.m., according to county fire officials.

The crash's location is near Skyline Boulevard and Highway 9. No injuries were reported.

Content losses were reported at $1,000.
