'Beanie Bandit' Serial Bank Robber Arrested
Campbell resident is alleged to have hit at least six banks in the South Bay.
In a media advisory issued late Friday evening, authorities said they had arrested Campbell resident Tony Piovesan, 43, on suspicion of robbing two banks in the Orchard City, two in Sunnyvale, one in Los Gatos and one in San Jose. They called him the "Beanie Bandit."
Campbell police Sgt. Gary Berg said Piovesan was apprehended in Campbell after investigators obtained evidence connecting him to six bank robberies that were committed throughout the county during the past two months.
Campbell police, who had been working with the Los Gatos-Monte Sereno Police Department on the case, thanked the working press for their coverage, which included stories posted on Patch sites in Silicon Valley describing the suspect and asking for the public's help in his arrest.
