SARATOGA - Firefighters are responding to a gas leak in Saratoga this evening, according to Santa Clara County fire officials.
Construction workers struck a gas line on Pamela Way at about 4:10 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Stephanie Stuehler said.
They were using an excavator to dig in the area around a "clearly and accurately marked" gas line, rupturing the three-quarter inch steel pipe, according to PG&E spokeswoman Mayra Tostado.

PG&E crews arrived at the scene shortly before 5 p.m. and are working to stop the flow of gas, she said.
Tostado also urged customers and anyone digging near a marked gas line to use hand tools, rather than excavators, within 24 inches of the line on either side.
