Burglar Caught Behind Saratoga Argonaut Shopping Center

Crime follows similar one reported Jan. 11 near same location.

Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies arrested a San Francisco man behind Saratoga's Argonaut Shopping Center last month and charged him with felony burglary and other crimes.

According to a sheriff's report, James Chase, 55, was arrested at 2:05 p.m. Feb. 28 at Pierce Road and Paramount Court, just behind the busy outdoor mall, located at 12940 Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd.

Chase, whose occupation was described as a case manager, faces felony first-degree burglary charges.

He's also been accused of misdemeanor evading a peace officer and reckless driving in connection to the crime.

Sheriff's deputies have also charged him with misdemeanor possession of burglary tools.

A person is guilty of first-degree burglary when they illegally enter any property with the intent to commit grand or petit larceny or any felony, according to the California penal code.

If found guilty of first-degree burglary, Chase could face two, four, or six years in state prison.

If found guilty of misdemeanor evading sheriff's deputies and reckless driving with disregard for the safety of persons or property, Chase could be sent to state prison, or Santa Clara County Jail for not less than six months nor more than one year.

If found guilty of misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, or ceramic or porcelain spark plug chips or pieces, or any other tool or instrument used to break or enter property, he could be sentenced to a jail term of up to six years, a fine of up to $6,000 and three-year informal probation.

Three Angelenos were arrested by sheriff's deputies the evening of Jan. 11 at the Argonaut Place Shopping Center on felony first-degree burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime charges.

In June of 2012, two men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery at the Argonaut Place Shopping Center.
