Saratoga Loan Agent Accused of Beating Ex-Partner
Sheriff's deputies take Byron Harkey into custody in Los Gatos on suspicion of violation of protective order that resulted in physical injury.

A Saratoga man was arrested by Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies last month on several domestic violence charges.
Byron Harkey, 60, was taken into custody the afternoon of Feb. 19 in Los Gatos for misdemeanor violation of a protective order that resulted in physical injury.
If convicted, Harkey could be punished by a fine of not more than $2,000, or by imprisonment in Santa Clara County Jail for not less than 30 days nor more than one year, or by both that fine and imprisonment.

Harkey, who was arrested at 236 No. Santa Cruz Ave. No. 9, was also charged with felony inflicting corporal injury on his spouse or cohabitant. His occupation is listed in a sheriff's report as a loan agent.
A person who willfully inflicts upon a spouse, former spouse, cohabitant, former cohabitant, or mother or father of his or her child, corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition is guilty of a felony, according to the law.

If found guilty of the latter crime, Harkey could be sent to state prison for two, three, or four years, or to county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of up to $6,000, or by both that fine and imprisonment.
