SOLANO and CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES, CA – Officers from the Contra Costa division of the California Highway Patrol this morning successfully talked a distraught man out of jumping from the Benicia-Martinez Bridge.
Officers responding at 10:30 a.m. to the scene found the seemingly suicidal man in tears and on the ledge of the bridge, the agency said.
"With great effort and care, Officer Westropp-Bennet was able to successfully talk the man down from the ledge by relating some of his own personal difficulties in life and helping the man understand that there are people that care about him and can help him," the department said.
