What to Expect From Tonight's School Board Meetings

The Saratoga Union and the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High school districts have their board of education meetings tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively, at the Redwood Middle School Library, 13925 Fruitvale Ave. and at the Saratoga High School, 20300 Herriman Ave.

Los Saratoga Union School District trustees will consider the following topics:

• Redwood Middle School students and Principal Kelly Green will share their new methodology and approach to expressing gratitude to those who have performed exemplary public service.
• Director of Educational Services Diane Smalley and principals Julie Ales, Joe Bosco, Alex Chapman and Kelly Green will present school site plans as approved by the school site councils.
• Instructional technology teacher Doris Watson and Foothill fifth-grade teacher Sally Perry will share a student project which involved the use of iBooks Author, student state reports, publishing, and illustrations.
• Director of Educational Services Diane Smalley will update the board on district-wide curriculum, instruction and assessment.
• Chief Business Officer Rosanna Jeng and the board will review the district's facilities use policy and fee schedule.
• Saratoga Union School District and the Saratoga Teachers' Association Initial Proposal for Negotiations for 2012-13.
• Saratoga Union School District and the Saratoga Classified Association Initial Proposals for Negotiations for 2012-13. 
• Jeng will provide the board with an update on the development of the first interim budget report. Superintendent Lane Weiss will provide the board with information related to the Nov. 6 election results.

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District trustees will consider the following:

• District Teachers Association Sunshine Letter, opening negotiations for
  2012‐13
• Update regarding the New Tech High proposal for Los Gatos High School
• Update regarding discussions with the LGHS community relating to the freshman transition plan
• Suspend implementation of the adopted graduation requirements effective June 5, 2012 at Saratoga High School
• Beginning Teacher Support and Assessment program and instructional coaching, 2012‐13
• An overview of district achievement data, 2011‐12
• Review of facility projects for possible funding
• Approve plan for student achievement, LGHS, 2012‐13
• Approve plan for student achievement, SHS, 2012‐13
• Approve proposed calendar for school year 2013‐14
• Accept donation of $3,000 to the Saratoga High School pool lighting project
