• Scotts Valley Fire District appoints Titus to board (pressbanner.com) — Scotts Valley residents have a new voice on their fire board, as longtime local Alex Titus has been appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District. Titus, who has lived in town since 2014, will also serve a full four-year term without an election after only two candidates filed for two open seats. 
• Santa Cruz quartet set for Super Girl Surf Festival in Oceanside (santacruzsentinel.com) — A Scotts Valley fighter, Jacon Horton, is set for a middleweight bout at Saviado FC 1 in Fremont on Sept. 12, giving local MMA fans someone to root for. The broader roundup also tracks Santa Cruz surfers at a major Oceanside contest, a local basketball commitment, and a Pasatiempo hole-in-one.
