Power Knocked Out, Wires Downed On Scotts Valley Drive

A blown transformer led to road closure, fires and electricity outages in surrounding communities.

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA –The north end of a heavily traveled road in Scotts Valley was closed this morning because of a couple small fires where electrical wires were down and a transformer blew, police said.

As of 8:56 a.m., traffic on northbound Scotts Valley Drive was being stopped at about the 6400 block of the road.

The fires are out and PG&E had a crew on the scene to make repairs. Police were asking people to avoid the area.

A power outage occurred in the area where the wires are down. The outage started at 8:08 a.m. and at the height of the outage 545 customers lost service, PG&E spokeswoman Mayra Tostado said.

As of 9:51 p.m. the crew had restored power to 409 customers.

Tostado confirmed that wires were down but said the cause is under investigation.

Crews are still making repairs. Power was out in Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley and Soquel.

A stretch of Scotts Valley Drive is closed this morning due to a blown transformer and downed wires, according to police.

Scotts Valley Police Department said that motorists will be stopped at approximately the 6400 block of the roadway.

A few small fires also broke out in the area, but were extinguished, police said.

PG&E crews were called, but as of roughly 9 a.m., the department did not have any time estimates for repairs.
