• California scientists develop shark surveillance robot (marinij.com) — A new shark-surveillance robot being tested off Southern California could eventually monitor waters near Seacliff State Beach and other Santa Cruz County shorelines, giving locals better real-time information about nearby great whites. Scientists say shark attacks remain rare, but the system’s acoustic tags, cameras, drones, and DNA sampling could help lifeguards and swimmers understand when sharks are around and make their own safety decisions.
