• Update: Earthquake measuring 2.2 shakes area near Searles Valley, CA on Oct. 2 (sacbee.com) — A small 2.2 magnitude earthquake shook an area about 13 miles north of Searles Valley on Friday afternoon, but quakes of this size are rarely felt or damaging. Residents are encouraged to report any shaking to USGS and review basic earthquake safety steps like dropping, covering, and holding on, as aftershocks are always possible in our region.
