BURBANK, CA -- Adam Sandler has signed an overall deal to write, produce and star in an untitled animated project for STX Entertainment, it was announced today.
Sandler made eight of his early films with STX Entertainment Chairman and CEO Robert Simonds, including "Billy Madison,'' "Happy Gilmore,'' "The Wedding Singer'' and "The Waterboy.''
More recently, Sandler teamed with Sony on the animated releases "Hotel Transylvania'' and "Hotel Transylvania 2,'' which have generated more than $825 million at the worldwide box office, and landed a four-picture deal with Netflix.

Adam Fogelson, chairman of the STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group, noted that the studio aims to release 12-15 films each year, with a focus on creating multi-platform family franchises across film, television and digital. The company is currently developing an animated film based on the Uglydoll toy brand.
The deal with Sandler and his Happy Madison Productions will add another major animated project to STX's portfolio, Fogelson said.
