Two Die in Valley Apartment Fire

Two people died in a fire in an Encino apartment building tonight and an unknown number were to be hospitalized, authorities said.

The fire, in the 5300 block of Lindley Avenue, was reported around 9 p.m. and knocked down by 100 firefighters in about 65 minutes, Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

Paramedics were assessing the number of patients who would require hospitalization, Scott said.

NBC4 reported that a woman was rescued from a balcony of one of the apartments, but her status was not known.
