Sherman Oaks Pet Daycare Owner Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run

The Los Angeles Daily News is reporting a break in the investigation of a 10-month-old hit and run that killed Kathryn Claire Theis.

A Sherman Oaks man who owned a pet daycare center on the westside was arrested Thursday, ending a 10-month-investigation into a fatal Santa Monica hit and run, the Los Angeles Daily News Reports.

On Thursday, Santa Monica detectives arrested Eugene Cohen, 33, on suspicion of felony hit and run, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and related charges, reported the Los Angeles Daily News. According to police, Cohen struck and killed Kathryn Claire Theis of Madison, Wis. and injured her daughter, Eleanor “Nora” Nett, in Santa Monica as they crossed Ocean Avenue on March 22.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, “Grainy photos and surveillance footage from a nearby camera caught the vehicle speeding away toward Venice. A member of the public tipped off police that the Infiniti G35 could belong to the owner of Puppy Luv, 10931 W. Pico Blvd., which closed weeks after the accident.”
