Blog: Sierra Madre Radio Station's Quest for Success!

An update on Radiofishbowl, an online radio station dedicated to playing music, interviews and shows for Sierra Madre.

Radiofishbowl.com has now been in existence about six months, which of course is a relatively short duration for any business venture. The process of building our listenership is ongoing as we put the word out there in the community. The idea though, for quite a few people, of listening to an online radio show is still somewhat foreign, and is perhaps still unknown to a number of Smart Phone users. Now with the Live365 application that can be downloaded via iTunes you are able to play Radiofishbowl anywhere. I have resorted to other social media source like Facebook and Twitter to promote the station, and to connect to those that may be listening.

The current stepping stone is, as I had mentioned, to build listenership so we may entice advertisers. Currently Radiofishbowl makes announcements daily from non-profit organizations such as the Sierra Madre Public Library, The Womens Club, Sierra Madre Chamber of Commerce and others... we publicize community events that are created by the City of Sierra Madre like the Mt. Wilson Trail Race, Wistaria Festival, Huck Finn Day, Sierra Madre School auction and many others.

Running an online radio show can be very time consuming. As DJ/Host I am live on air two hours each weekday from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The remainder of the time is filled with pre-recorded shows and events. One of more successful segments so far is the "Barry, Lisa and Rich Show," a comedy trivia show that airs Monday and Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. Local celebrities Barry Schwam, Lisa Bowman and Rich Johnson headline this one-hour trivia show. I encourage you to check it out as it's a lot of fun.

I am currently working on a number of interviews for upcoming shows for my "Sierra Madre Stories" segment. The first one in this series was with the author Chip Jacobs talking about his book "Wheeling The Deal," a story about his famous uncle who grew up in Sierra Madre. I have just completed the second interview with Chip talking about his latest book "The Ascension of Jerry." I'm hoping to put this on-air soon. I hope that you will check us out and if you are a local business or organization in Sierra Madre I am pleased to promote your event! Also, if you are a non-profit or local business we would love to have you as an advertiser.
