Former NFL Star Chris McAlister Says He's Broke
McAlister was a standout player at Pasadena High School before going to play for the Baltimore Ravens on a 2005 contract worth $55 million.

Former NFL cornerback Chris McAlister has filed court documents saying that he is broke and unable to pay his $11,000 per month child support bill he owes his ex-wife Marlene, TMZ reported Thursday.
Before his rise to Pro Bowl status in the NFL, McAlister was well known locally for his years playing for Pasadena High School. McAlister racked up 1,153 yards passing, 1,302 rushing yards as the Bulldog’s quarterback, according to his official Facebook page.
Chris is also the son of James McAlister, who was a star football player at Blair high in Pasadena, then at UCLA and in the NFL.

In 1999, the Baltimore Ravens chose McAlister in the first round of the NFL Draft. McAlister later signed a seven-year, $55 million contact in 2005.
In September of 2009, McAlister listed his Beverly Hills area home on the market for $7.9 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In that article, McAlister is quoted a saying he would be returning to the NFL that year, though he did not know with which team.
But now McAlister says he has been unemployed since 2009 and I living with his parents.
A report from Yahoo Sports cited in coverage of the story on SportingNews.com says that as many as 80 percent of NFL players “squander their fortunes in the years immediately following their retirement.”
