La Salle Lancers to Take on Covina in First Round of Playoffs
Baseball team hopes to expand their four-game winning streak in game against Covina.

The Lancer baseball team wrapped up their regular season Del Rey league play over a week ago. They took second place in their league, but stayed active last week by playing in a few nonleague games against Maranatha and Montclair Prep.
They beat Maranatha twice, 9-2 and 8-0, behind strong outings from pitchers Bowdien Derby, who gave up zero runs over six innings pitched, and Nathan Bouton who pitched five innings and only allowed two runs.
La Salle’s 7-6 victory over Montclair Prep on Thursday, May 12 not only kept the team in good practice as they head into the playoffs, but also put the team on a four-game winning streak.

It’s a winning streak the team would like to keep going as they head into the CIF-SS Division 4 Round 1 game today, May 19, at 3:15 p.m.
But Covina is no pushover, having just finished second in the Valle Vista league. Aiding in that league win is the fact that the team has scored eight or more runs in six of their last seven games. Though, the team’s pitching staff is somewhat thin, other than of Joe Wills, who has maintained an astonishingly low 0.99 ERA this season.
