• Community band celebrates three decades of music (lvcampustimes.org) — A longtime regional brass band that has performed in Sierra Madre just marked its 30th anniversary with a celebratory concert in Pomona. The Golden State British Brass Band drew about 90 people, spotlighted film favorites and Olympic-themed music, and highlighted its ties to more than 20 Southern California communities. Organizers hope better promotion will bring even more local audiences to future shows.
   

• Alhambra City Council Installs New Mayor and Vice Mayor During Annual Reorganization (coloradoboulevard.net) — Sierra Madre gets a brief nod as Alhambra installs a new mayor and vice mayor under a rotating system similar to those in San Gabriel, South Pasadena and Sierra Madre. The reorganization keeps Alhambra's councilmembers serving by district while one member assumes mayoral duties for about nine months. It's a useful comparison point for understanding how Sierra Madre's own council leadership rotates.
