Photos: Crescenta Valley and Pasadena Compete in Bonita Air Assault

Tournament play begins today at Bonita High School.

Crescenta Valley and Pasadena participated in pool play in the Bonita Air Assault on Friday at Bonita High School, where 30 teams take part in a seven-on-seven passing tournament this weekend.

Both teams are coming off struggling seasons finishing at 4-6. Pasadena last year had a 3-4 record in the Pacific League, yet a number of blowout losses had taken out of a playoff run. Competing in the air strike gives them a chance to revamp their offensive scheme as summer football is in full swing.

“In these tournaments, it gives you a chance to find guys that can execute as quick as possible”, Bulldogs coach Randy Horton said. “We had a down year last year, so its time to pick ourselves up with some good competition.”

The Falcons are also in the same position, finishing in Pacific League play with a 3-5 record and narrowly missing a playoff berth. They seemed to be one of the stronger teams in the tournament as they are trying to get themselves ready through summer football as well.

“These games are just trying to get your offense ready for battle,” Falcons head coach Paul Schilling said.  “Our guys are quick on the ball on both sides, so using this tournament gives us a chance to see who can do what all around.”

All 30 teams played in six games on Friday, and will play in a tournament style bracket Saturday beginning at 3 p.m.
