Whiz Kids of the Week: La Salle Cheerleading Squad Takes First Place in State Competition

Cheerleaders now headed to national competition in Anaheim on March 25.

The Cheer squad, led by Coach Meagan Bitonti Loomis, a 2002 graduate of the school, competed on Saturday, Feb. 19, at the State Championship held at Knott's Berry Farm, hosted by Sharp International, after qualifying in third place at the regional level.

After facing some tough competition in the largest competition circuit for cheerleading, the La Salle cheerleaders took home first place. The squad will take on the best of the best at the USA Nationals competition on March 25 at the Anaheim Convention Center.

Previously, four of the team were recognized as All Americans during the summer, and the team won “Top Banana” for its spirit, leadership and kindness.

“The cheerleaders of La Salle High School are proud to represent their school. Our philosophy is to promote school spirit, unity, and sportsmanship," reads an official statement on the school’s website. "Members of the cheerleading squad must exhibit leadership both in school and in the community, projecting a positive image at all times. This image is reflected in cheerleaders’ grades, conduct, behavior, attitudes, speech, dress, and relationships with others.”

The squad also participate in service and community projects, including feeding local firemen on 9-11, making 28 blankets for children in need at Childrens Hospital L.A., helped decorate the , organized a mass donation to Goodwill and walked in the 5K Awareness Walk by Mothers Against Drunk Driving..
