January 2 2020
On January 1, at approximately 5:25 pm, deputies were dispatched to the 6000 block of Highway 12 for a domestic violence call. Two deputies assigned to the Sonoma Valley were also responding to assist. Those two deputies were driving separate patrol cars with their lights and sirens on. As they approached the home, the first deputy slowed down and was rear-ended by the second deputy.
The first deputy sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene. The second deputy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for moderate injuries and was later released. The collision caused Highway 12 near Melita Road to be closed for over an hour. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the collision. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal investigation as well.
We appreciate the concern and support the community has shown for our two deputies. Their names will be released later.
