AAUW Forum: Latin America's Great Urban Centers & Hollywood Comedies
Popular lecture series from the American Association of University Women's Healdsburg branch is hosted once again at the Raven Theater
The American Association of University Women's Healdsburg branch is thrilled to once again offer its popular lecture series, not only on Zoom, but at our treasured historic Raven Theater. This fall AAUW brings to our community two 6-class series that are both as educational and entertaining as they are different from each other.
On Tuesday mornings, beginning October 11, UC Berkeley Professor Emeritus Alex M. Saragoza will engage and enlighten us with stories, insights and experiences from the greatest urban centers to south of our borders: Buenos Aires Lima, Havana and Mexico City. He will share historical influences from around the world, some obvious and some surprising, that have shaped social, political, culinary, sports, music, and even dance norms across the various cities. Enrollees will see the sites, hear the music, and treat their senses to the lesser-known influences that place these cities among the world's greats.
Back by popular demand on Thursday mornings, beginning October 13, is film scholar and former psychotherapist Terry Ebinger, MS. She reveals the often hilarious approaches to the challenges faced by film makers as they cleverly skirted Production Code censorship in the writing, direction and filming of romantic comedies in the 1930's and 1940's. She assigns the homework we wish we had when we were in school -- watching 6 of the most classic beloved romantic comedies in the comfort of our homes.
