1. Sonoma County Orders Masking In Healthcare Settings (patch.com) — Sonoma County health officials are reinstating seasonal masking rules in patient care areas of local healthcare facilities, including skilled nursing and dialysis centers, starting November 1. Workers, volunteers, and visitors in Sonoma must wear approved medical-grade masks in designated areas through March 31, 2027, with limited exemptions, as the county aims to protect high‑risk patients and preserve hospital capacity during respiratory virus season.
2. Sonoma Co. declares emergency as forecasters warn of strong El Niño (abc7news.com) — Sonoma County has declared a local emergency as forecasters warn a strong El Niño could bring heavy winter rains, flooding, and mudslides. Officials are already clearing drains, staging sandbags and barricades, and readying monitoring systems, while directing county departments and Sonoma Water to prioritize vulnerable infrastructure and coordinate closely with cities, tribes, and state emergency managers.
3. Wine Flies Free On Sonoma County's Newest Airport Carrier (patch.com) — Delta Air Lines has launched new service between Sonoma County's Charles M. Schulz Airport and Salt Lake City, letting passengers check a case of wine for free. The route opens more than 90 connections, boosts Wine Country tourism, and brings new local jobs through expanded ground operations, while giving visitors and residents an easier way to travel with their favorite bottles.
4. Sonoma County Supervisors Approve $49.5 Million Office Purchase to Cut Costs and Upgrade Facilities (ksro.com) — Sonoma County supervisors have approved buying a large office building on Aviation Boulevard for $49.5 million, shifting hundreds of county employees from leased to owned space. The move will support a modern Emergency Operations Center by 2028 and is projected to save taxpayers about $70 million while reducing the size and cost of the future County Government Center.
5. sonoma-state-university-appoints-new-mens-basketball-coach-to-lead-programs-return-next-year (fresnobee.com) — Sonoma State University has hired veteran coach Aaron Landon to rebuild and relaunch the men's basketball program, which returns after a two-year hiatus in the 2027–28 season.
