Bicyclist, 20, Killed When Hit By Dump Truck ID'd

The 58-year-old truck driver from Sonoma remained at the scene Tuesday in Santa Rosa, officials said.

SANTA ROSA, CA – The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office has identified a bicyclist who died when a dump truck struck her Tuesday afternoon in west Santa Rosa as 20-year-old Sidney Falbo of Santa Rosa.

The collision happened around 12:25 p.m. near the intersection of Stony Point Road and state Highway 12, Santa Rosa police said.

The 10-wheel, loaded dump truck exited eastbound Highway 12 at Stony Point Road and stopped at the traffic light on the off-ramp, witnesses told police.

When the signal light turned green, the truck driver waited for a pedestrian in a crosswalk to cross Stony Point Road on the south side of the intersection. The driver then turned right onto southbound Stony Point Road, according to police.

Police said it's not clear exactly where Falbo was coming from before she was struck, but she was hit while heading east across Stony Point Road in or near the crosswalk at the Joe Rodota Trail. Falbo was pinned under the rear wheels of the truck and died at the scene, police said.

The 58-year-old truck driver from Sonoma remained at the scene, and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the collision, police said.

The fatal collision closed southbound Stony Point Road at Occidental Road for several hours, causing a large traffic backup in the area.
