CA's Compassionate Release Program - What You Need to Know
Defense law firm seeks to educate public on California's Compassionate Release Program.

Santa Rosa attorneys Michael Li and Paul Lozada of Li & Lozada, LLP are using their blog to keep the public informed. Their latest blog post goes over the recently expanded Compassionate Release Program which not only allows the state to parole seriously ill prisoners, but helps reduce prison overcrowding.
California has the highest inmate population of any state in the country and the issue of overcrowding is regularly at the forefront of debate. California adopted this legislation in 2011 that would allow gravely ill inmates to be released. The process for release is a lengthy one that looks at the potential dangerousness of the inmate and their possible effect on society.
It is often granted for inmates with 6 months or less to live or the inability to care for themselves. In order to address concerns of the public, the inmates are usually released with certain conditions including a monitoring device and physical exam.
