Dozens Of Pigs Safely Evacuated From Barn Fire
Firefighters who responded to the blaze at Santa Rosa High School's Agricultural Barn helped 42 pigs to safety.

SANTA ROSA, CA — Dozens of pigs — 42 to be exact — survived a fire Thursday at Santa Rosa High School's Agricultural Barn thanks to the quick work of firefighters. The blaze at 1235 Mendocino Ave. was reported at 9:09 p.m. and the first Santa Rosa Fire Department units arrived on scene in under 4 minutes, a fire official said.
Crews found a fire burning in the middle of the barn and as they extended hose lines, they simultaneously evacuated a number of pigs out of the fire area, Santa Rosa fire Battalion Chief Ken Sebastiani said in a news release.
"Crews were able to stop the fire from extending through the barn," Sebastiani said. "The fire damage was minimal and was held to two animal pens."

The fire, which caused an estimated $1,000 in damages, remained under investigation Friday, Sebastiani said.
