Ledson Winery Kicks Off 2015 Award Season With Double Gold
2010 Redwood Valley Petite Sirah Wins Big at San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Sonoma Valley’s Ledson Winery & Vineyards (www.ledson.com) did not skip a beat by starting off the 2015 award season with a big win at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest competition of American wines in the world. Ledson Winery’s own 2010 Redwood Valley Petite Sirah received a Double Gold.
The rustic character of Petite Sirah takes center stage with this 2010 Redwood Valley Petite Sirah ($42). It has wonderful fruit but primarily shows the great characters of the grape variety without being overpowering. Brambleberry fruit, restrained by gentle oak and chocolate notes entice your nose as you are met with smooth flavors of dark fruit, earthy notes and tannins that are very present without being too dry. The finish lingers with fine, rustic tannins.
Petite Sirah has long been an important blending grape, prized primarily for its deep color and fairly intense tannin.
