Man Arrested After Standoff, Gunfire In Sonoma Valley: Police

A 21-year-old man was arrested early Friday after a gunman fired multiple rounds in Sonoma Valley.

A 21-year-old man was arrested early Friday after a gunman fired multiple rounds in Sonoma Valley, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office said.

Damiano Serafini of Sonoma was taken into custody about 5:25 a.m. in the Casa Grande parking lot behind the Sonoma Cheese Factory after a law enforcement response involving Sonoma and Napa County deputies, Sonoma and Santa Rosa police and the California Highway Patrol.

Sonoma deputies responded about 1:48 a.m. to a report of gunfire at a residence in the 20600 block of Pueblo Avenue in Sonoma. None of the occupants were struck.

While deputies were at the Pueblo Avenue home, dispatch received a report of a vehicle crash in the 300 block of 1st Street East. Within minutes, a gunshot was heard and Serafini was observed running into the Barracks State Park area toward the Sonoma Plaza, deputies said.

For the next 45 minutes, Serafini allegedly moved and hid in the area north of the Plaza, firing an additional three to give rounds from a handgun, deputies said.

Shortly after 2:45 a.m., Serafini was located, still armed, near a vehicle in the Casa Grande parking lot. Hostage negotiators persuaded him to surrender three hours later.

Serafini was accused of assault on a peace officer with a firearm, willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm and a misdemeanor charge of being under the influence of cocaine. His bail was set at $250,000.
