NovaZone

NovaZone Band is a group of musicians playing a unique mix of “Rockit Blues”, which is to say, an eclectic array of blues, rockers and original tunes thrown in to keep things fresh. Together they have discovered a combined passion to entertain audiences of all sizes with their unique sound.

Member Bios;

Michael Moffat Lead Vocals, Percussion

Michael has decades of experience as a lead, harmony and background singer in multiple genres beginning with cover bands playing local Minneapolis/St. Paul shows and graduating to a regional circuit in the Upper Midwest. Moving to the Bay Area where he reconnected with a San Francisco native who recruited him as a vocalist in his band. He then helped form NovaZone, a group now taking advantage of his passion for early blues rock music – grounded in classic blues, gospel and roots music – as the foundation of his strength telling a songs’ story and connecting with the audience. He plans on singing and enjoying music well into the future!

David Hurwitz Drums

After a many year hiatus from playing drums, David recently co-founded Novazone, a blues/rock band based In Marin County. Teaming up with some very talented North Bay Musicians, he is back to playing live gigs. Musical influences include drummers, Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan, Steve Ferrone and Anton Fig. Band influences are Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Bonamassa, Petty and ZZ Top.

George Mieling Keys

George is Sonoma resident, early on was trained on the classical piano in Vienna, Austria, where he was born and raised. He then transitioned to Jazz and played for many years in an instrumental Jazz-rock band. After moving to the US, he was influenced by Southern Rock and Blues, the genre he, to this day, enjoys playing. Prior to joining NovaZone, George has played in various Sonoma based blues and rock bands.

Mark Varnes Lead Guitar & vocals

Mark was born and raised in Chicago by a family with tremendous musical history including The Grand Ole Opry, short time with the band “Chicago” just before CTA was released, trumpet player of the Doc Severinsen Band during The Tonight Show-Jonny Carson era, as well as Sons of Norway International Choir. Musical influences are Freddie King, Lonnie Mac, Elmore James, Otis Rush, Big Twist Stevie Ray Vaughn, Robben Ford.

Espen Skaar Bass

Trained in jazz, Espen is an accomplished bass player who is versatile in many genres of music, including fusion jazz, rock, and blues. His contribution to the band keeps the bass rhythm groove as the foundation for the entire band
