Pair Under 14 Years Old Confessed To $25K Of Car Vandalism: Police

The two told Petaluma law enforcement that peer pressure sparked the crimes.

PETALUMA, Ca - Petaluma police have arrested two juveniles on suspicion of committing 11 peer pressure-related vehicle vandalisms in the city this year.

The estimated cost of the repairs is approximately $25,000, police Sgt. Jeremy Walsh said. After police notified the public on Jan. 30 about the vehicle vandalisms on McDowell Boulevard and Novak Drive, additional incidents then occurred over the weekend mainly in west Petaluma, Walsh said.

Officer David Hutchinson analyzed data and crime scene evidence and interviewed witnesses who provided possible descriptions of the suspects, Walsh said. Hutchinson identified two juvenile suspects who initially were believed to be witnesses, Walsh said.

Hutchinson again interviewed the two juveniles under 14 in depth on Feb. 4 and they admitted committing the vehicle vandalisms, Walsh said. Each one also confirmed the other’s involvement.

The teens said the vandalisms were random and appeared to be a result of peer pressure, Walsh said. The teens were arrested, cited to appear in juvenile court and released to their parents.
